Player Development Coach

Develop Your Game. Compete With Confidence.
At McMakin Indoor Golf, instruction goes far beyond fixing a golf swing. Our goal is to help golfers build the skills, consistency, and confidence needed to perform on the course, in competition, and at the next level of their golfing journey.
Leading that mission is Zach Chavez an experienced and seasoned coach who specializes in helping golfers turn practice into performance. Zach is a lifelong Pasadena, Texas native, a graduate of Pasadena Memorial High School, and a former collegiate golfer who earned a scholarship to William Penn University, where he earned a position on the university's traveling five-man team during both years of competition. He later continued his golf education through the Sam Houston State University PGA Golf Management program. Zach has completed all the educational and practical requirements for the advanced coaching PGA programs A-5 and A-6. In addition, Zach continues to expand his expertise through advanced player development training.
With over six years of teaching experience, Zach has worked with golfers ranging from first-time beginners to competitive junior players preparing for tournaments and collegiate opportunities. His instruction combines proven PGA teaching principles with modern performance technology to create a personalized roadmap for improvement.
More Than Lessons. A Development Plan.
What sets Zach apart is his commitment to player development.
Every golfer has different strengths, challenges, and goals. Zach believes the best instruction begins with understanding the individual player and building a development plan around what will make the greatest difference in their game.
Rather than relying on quick fixes or one-size-fits-all instruction, Zach emphasizes sound fundamentals, purposeful practice, and measurable progress. His approach helps golfers understand not only what they need to improve, but why it matters and how to work toward lasting results.
Areas of instruction include:
-
Swing Mechanics & Fundamentals: Improve grip, posture, alignment, setup, and swing consistency.
-
Ball Flight & Impact Analysis: Understand club delivery, face angle, swing path, launch, and spin.
-
Distance & Accuracy: Develop more reliable contact, improve distance control, and reduce dispersion.
-
Short Game & Putting: Build better touch, speed control, green-reading skills, and confidence around the greens.
-
Course Management: Make smarter decisions, manage risk, and turn better execution into lower scores.
-
Mental Game & Confidence: Establish routines, develop a positive approach, and prepare to perform under pressure.
-
Competitive Player Development: Prepare for junior tournaments, high school golf, amateur competition, and the pursuit of collegiate golf opportunities.
Whether your goal is learning the game of golf, breaking 100, winning tournaments, or earning a college golf opportunity, Zach develops a plan designed specifically for you.
